NEWLYN MALE CHOIR NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2010.

The Newlyn Male Choir are requesting your assistance in obtaining a new conductor and new singing members. Our present conductor, John Phillpotts is, for personal reasons, finding it difficult to carry on and will be leaving us after Christmas. So we are looking for someone to take over the post of conductor from January 2011. Any interested person would be welcome to come and hear us at one, or all of the following events.

We have three remaining main events leading up to Christmas. On the 5th December we are performing a Christmas concert at Zennor Church. 7.30pm on the 12th December at St Peters Church, Newlyn. 7.30pm. with well known soloists William & Trish Thomas. Sunday 19th Dccember. A more informal social evening of Christmas music and Carols. When we also draw our Christmas Raffle. Also with Coffee & Mince Pies. 8.00pm. Our Guest entertainer will be popular Cornish story teller, John Harry. We are of course also in rehearsals every Monday evening at 7.30pm in the Newlyn Centre, Chywoon Hill, Newlyn.

Regarding membership. As with all choirs our future depends on a sizable intake of younger men to take over from our valued older singers as they retire. We are the third oldest Male Voice Choir in the County with an excellent reputation throughout the County. and beyond, for its quality of singing and variety of programme, and the position it holds in the community of Newlyn.

In 2011 the choir will be celebrating its 90th year and will hopefully be able to organise some special events, and an increase in membership would be a great help in being able to do so. So come along all you budding singers. Come and help us to celebrate our 90 years in style. You don't need to be able to read music. Just be able to follow the music and have a reasonable voice. There is no public audition. We have a six week trial period during which the conductor will be able to judge your ability during rehearsals, Hopefully see you when we resume after Christmas, on the 10th January.
